This is an idea for a multipurpose stadium for football and baseball in Minnesota. The Twins, Vikings, and Gophers could all play in it. Everybody has given up on the multipurpose stadium. But all the sports teams in Minnesota want their own stadium and nobody wants to pay for them. A multipurpose stadium could save $500 million, and I think if somebody really tried to build a nice one, it could work. I have a model seating bowl here for football and baseball. I think the sitelines can work, and if built with the right material (not just concrete), it would be a nice football and baseball stadium. It might be a little small for the NFL (60,000) and a little big for baseball (55,000), but think of the money saved if it really worked well.
This stadium would have three levels. The lower level in left field would have 5,000 retracting seats for football. There would be 4,000 bleacher seats in right field. The main upper deck would go along the foul lines for baseball, and a separate upper deck and press box would be in left field, similar to Metropolitan Stadium, and these would be used just for football usually.
I kept the far end of the stadium more open so wouldn't be a huge bowl all the way around, and this would suit baseball well. And the Twins shouldn't complain about having too many seats. They aren't really hurting anything, and they are there for a big playoff game. There is a separate upper deck in left they can just not use when they don't need it.
I hope you like these drawings, I probably put more time into these than any other.
