Jackson Coliseum Arena, Concert ConfigurationA reader of my website suggested a drawing for what I think a new arena for Jackson, MS should look like. He suggested I work off the earlier New Jersey Devils drawing, so this has some similarity. In the end though, it turned out much different and better suited for a mid-sized arena for a different purpose. Jackson doesn't really have any pro sport teams, so I thought the new arena should be primarily an ideal concert venue that can also host minor league sports. The existing State Fair Coliseum is 45 years old and is ill-suited for sports, mostly hosting concerts and rodeos.
So this is my new Coliseum, with a horseshoe shaped stand that is well suited for concert seating. The configuration is something similar to the Cobo Arena in Detroit, which is an outstanding concert arena. This arena would have a hockey capacity of 9,950, a basketball capacity of 10,350, and a concert capacity of 11,760. The arena would also have 30 suites a the top of the arena.
