Boston Garden Drawing

New Boston Garden, Balcony and Suites Included
New Boston Garden-Lower Level Only

Someone asked me about making a drawing for a larger sized Boston Garden that was true to the original design. I've heard people don't really like the Fleet Center, or what ever the hell its called now. Many people wish what was built actually looked like the old Garden, beyond the yellow paint. So here is what some believe should have been built, a large form of the classic Boston Garden. This Garden has 21,000 seats, 7,500 in the expanded 15 row balcony, 6,300 in the 14 row stadium level, and 6,200 in the 20 row loge/promenade level. 68 double stacked suites would hang above it all, just as before. With the large overhangs, some stadium and balcony seats would still be obstructed, but with the higher capacity, it wouldn't be such a big deal.

What struck me about the floor plans of Boston Garden was how oblong it was. The balconies and stadium level had more rows on the ends than the sides, and the balcony was pushed back more at the ends, which is reflected in the drawing. Beside adding more rows overall, more seating was added along the sides to make the rows even throughout. The balcony in the old garden only had 9 or 10 rows along the side and 15 on the ends. The stadium level was also about 6 rows deeper on the ends in the old garden, so much of the seating through the old arena was on the ends.

In the NHL, two more arenas will likely be built in the near future, in Pittsbugh and Detroit. Detroit has a chance to bring back a classic that was similar to Boston Garden, the Olympia Stadium. I'm going to make a drawing for a new Olympia kind of like I did with the Boston Garden. Many say that the Olympia, from a sightline stand point, was the best of the original six arenas. I think the Red Wings should take a chance and build something that is very similar to the old Olympia, becasue we don't have anything that resembles an original six arena anymore.

Thanks to Robert for the idea, floor plans and photos,
I hope you all like this drawing, let me know what you think.
