Site with New Stadium Construction
New Rosenblatt Stadium-Omaha Royals Configuration
This is my plan for a New Rosenblatt Stadium to be constructed just north of the existing stadium. The grandstand would be on the corner of 13th St. and Bob Gibson Ave. This idea may be controversial, becasue many people like the existing stadium. However, the Omaha Royals want a stadium more their size, and the existing stadium is quite old and needs a $25 million renovation. So this is what I drew up, which isn't drastically different from the existing stadium in terms of size or shape. It will be more functional for both the Royals and CWS however. First, the permanent portion of the stadium would seat 15,000. The grandstand would have 40 rows, 20 in the lower bowl and 20 in the upper bowl around the infield. The lower bowl would seat 7,000 and the upper bowl would seat 5,500. The club level above the grandstand would seat 2,000, and the 30 suites above the club level would seat 500. This new club/suite level would provide more revenue for the Royals and CWS. Four portable bleacher sections would be moved in down the baselines and in the outfield for the CWS, with a capacity of 13,000, for a total of 28,000.
Some of the planning for the New Rosenblatt has only a 9,000 seat grandstand and 20,000 portable seats. I think that would look terrible, to have 70% of the stadium be portable. 15,000 is pretty big, but in line with AAA ballparks in Indianapolis, Louisville, and Memphis. I think my plan has a good balance. The CWS would have to move for a year while this new stadium is being built on the same site. I might suggest Wrigley Field would make a good foster home for this event. The Royals could continue to play at old Rosenblatt while construction of the new stadium takes place, as none of the new grandstand would overlap the field or existing stadium.
